New parking charges in Bushey Heath (3 comments)
Local council Hertsmere is finalising details for the introduction of charges for parking in two Bushey Heath car parks - The Rutts, High Road, Bushey Heath and opposite St Peters Church Hall.
The council say that the charges are due to local complaints and concerns. Are you concerned or complaining? Do you want to see charges of 40p for an hour to park in Bushey Heath?
Local workers that drive into Bushey may have to start paying £400 per year to park their car - is that fair in the current climate?

Nightmare for those that already use Bushey Heath parking facilities, why on earth would anyone complain about those car parks? People with nothing better to do I suppose - stop moaning!

Proposed Carpark Parking Charges
These parking charges are unfair to residents and shopkeepers. The excuse is that residents are concerned that the car parks which were meant for shoppers and short stay visitors are being used by businesses for longer than the 2 hour limit. They are presumably concerned because they, the residents can't find parking spaces when they need them.
If the Borough Council is changing the system because of these concerns, then why is there not a period of free parking, say an hour or even up to the current 2 hour limit, after which there could be a high charge to park?
The fact that business will be able to buy permits means that residents probably still won’t find parking places and if they do they will now have to pay for them, so how will the new charges help residents? Is this just a money raising initiative?
If the council goes ahead with its plans, then it may gain fees from parking charges although they will presumably have to hire extra staff to police the plan, but they will also loose the good will of residents. Also I think businesses are bound to suffer and in this financial climate, Bushey Heath will end up with the ugly sight of empty shops and the Borough will loose those council tax revenues.
A Bushey Heath resident (and user of local shops - but not if I have to pay for the pleasure!) -
Couldn't agree more - pointless charges for parking will transform a thriving shopping area into a ghost town in next to no time. This is bad news for local businesses, local residents and visitors to the area.
Who on earth complained to the council about it?
I'll be writing to Hertsmere, will it do any good?

I totally agree, if this is being done to help shoppers and to stop the businesses using the car park then give at least 1 hour free parking.
I for one will not pay to shop in Bushey. I like to use and support my local shops instead of the large supermarkets but if I can park at one of them of free then that's where I will do my shopping.
This will be the death of the small shop!
