Posted by news desk in Local News, 6th October 2009, 3:28pm

Throughout October Watford residents have the opportunity to learn new skills or sharpen their existing ones at a series of free learning sessions.

Over 150 free learning opportunities have been arranged at various venues across the town from Thursday 1 until Saturday 31 October.

The Learning Revolution is open to adult Watford residents, runs from Thursday 1 October to Friday 16 October and offers over a hundred free activities, while The Family Learning Festival then runs from Saturday 17 – Saturday 31 October, offering over fifty free activities for families.

From yoga, chess, book clubs, belly dancing and Tae Kwon Do to creative writing, photography, Asian cooking, gardening and origami, the classes are diverse.

Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, said: “There is so much on offer – from swimming to learning Swahili, from knitting to karate and all for free. The venues are all very welcoming and I would encourage anyone with a bit of spare time to join in and have fun.”

The majority of sessions are open to all but there are some aimed at over 50s, over 60s, the recently retired, people with disabilities, women only, parents and young people.

Personal development and business sessions will also be on offer to all adult residents who are looking to get back to work, with sessions on CV writing and interview tips, public speaking skills and volunteering. You could even have an Arabic, German, Italian, Punjabi, Russian, English or Spanish lesson.
