Inspector to decide Lazy Fox fate
Controversial plans to build 14 flats on the site of a pub in Bushey will be considered by a government inspector this week, six months after councillors derided the proposal as “ridiculous”.
Developers, Mitco Properties Ltd, had hoped to bulldoze the Lazy Fox, in Sparrows Herne, and replace it with a four storey block of flats.
However, the proposal, which comprises of 13 two-bed and a one-bed flat, was rejected by a planning committee at Hertsmere Borough Council in February.
Mitco have now appealed against that decision and if the government’s planning inspector rules in the company’s favour the council could be lumbered with an application it dislikes, as well as having to foot a hefty bill.
When plans came before the Bushey and Aldenham Planning Committee six months ago, councillors rejected the proposal as it would make the area “excessively cramped”.
They ruled it would be “detrimental to the character of the locality” and rejected the application due to concerns about access to the underground car park.
No date has yet been set for the appeal.
